According to the details, the Department of Meteorology has issued a report in which it has been stated that there is a possibility of severe heat from May 21, 2024 to May 27, 2024 across Pakistan, especially in the province of Punjab. A few districts of Punjab, including Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Multan, will be affected by this heat wave. According to meteorology, the temperature in these districts and their surroundings can exceed 45 degrees.

It was further informed that no hot spot from Karachi to Gilgit will be able to escape this heat wave. Appeal to people to stay at home.

The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) also issued an alert across Punjab regarding this severe heat wave and ordered the hospital administration to be ready.

According to PDMA representative Dr Farid Zafar, the recent heat wave is due to global warming and increasing air pollution. He said that this intense heat can affect your internal organs. So follow the SOPs and don’t leave your homes unnecessarily.

It was further told that even if you go out under compulsion, keep a wet cloth with you to cover your head. Also, use a good quality sunscreen to protect your skin. Use lassi, sugarcane juice, syrup etc. to remove internal heat.

What is Heat Stroke?

Heat stroke is caused by extreme heat. In heat stroke our body temperature goes out of control. Due to heat, the body stops sweating, which prevents our body from cooling down. If we are not careful in extreme heat, our body temperature can exceed 105 degrees. In the absence of timely treatment, a person may die.

Symptoms of Heat Stroke

Heat stroke is a dangerous problem. If you experience any of the following symptoms, contact your doctor immediately;

  • Not working the brain.
  • Forgetting while talking.
  • Suffering from confusion.
  • Fainting.
  • Dizziness and vomiting.
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Headache or body ache.
  • Stop sweating and dry skin.
  • High body temperature.
  • Feeling internal heat.
  • Not maintaining mental balance in case of lack of timely treatment.

If you experience any of the above symptoms, administer your first aid immediately;

  • Avoid being alone in such a situation. Try to have someone stay with you until you start treatment.
  • Immediately move to a cool, shady and ventilated place.
  • Cool your body with cold water or ice and drink water.
  • Wet the cloth and place it on the head.
  • Try to get your clothes wet to cool down your body temperature.

All the points mentioned above are for first aid. Try to get to the hospital as soon as possible so that your treatment can begin.

Remember that caution is better than cure. So try to keep yourself as cool as possible in this hot season. Avoid hot foods and avoid situations that raise your blood pressure.

Heat Stroke is not an Uncommon Problem

We do not take heat seriously. But how dangerous this extreme heat wave is is not estimated. So it is better to be safe than regret.

Between 1,500 and 2,000 people die from heat stroke worldwide every year. The main reason for these deaths is the lack of treatment. According to WHO’s research, five out of every million people suffer from heat stroke. It is such a disease that even after being cured, its effects do not go away for a long time.

How to Stop Heat Stroke

It comes to everyone’s mind that if it is such a dangerous disease why are steps not taken to eradicate it. So let’s say that the main cause of extreme heat waves is global warming. The temperature of our earth is increasing day by day which is intensifying the pollution. Due to which the occurrence of severe heat waves has become a normal.
